Why choose an Enphase battery
- Modular. Start with one unit and stack more to scale backup capacity as your needs grow.
- About 5 kWh usable capacity per unit (manufacturer specification).
- Per-battery monitoring in the Enphase app, alongside your microinverter production data.
- A natural fit for Enphase microinverter systems. If you already have Enphase panels, the battery adds to a system and app you already know.
Capacity figures are manufacturer-published specifications and depend on system configuration.
Whole-home backup with the Enphase System Controller
The Enphase System Controller is a meter-collar-based device that installs at the meter, ahead of your existing panel, and manages power flow between the grid, the battery and the home automatically. Paired with IQ Batteries it can provide whole-home coverage, and in many homes it avoids a full panel upgrade. As a certified Enphase installer, we assess your panel and meter and recommend the right configuration — meter collar, backup subpanel or panel upgrade.
Enphase or Tesla Powerwall?
Both are excellent, and the right answer usually comes down to your solar. Enphase batteries pair with Enphase microinverter systems; Tesla Powerwall 3 pairs with Tesla string-inverter systems and has a built-in inverter and higher capacity per unit. We install both, so we're not steering you to one brand — see the side-by-side on our battery storage guide.

Common questions
Can I add an Enphase battery to my existing Enphase solar?
In most cases, yes. We check your existing microinverter system and panel and confirm the cleanest way to add storage. See adding a battery to existing solar.
How many IQ Batteries do I need?
That depends on the loads you want backed up and for how long. Because the system is modular, we can size it to your needs and leave room to add units later.
Will I need a panel upgrade?
Not necessarily. Depending on your panel and meter, a System Controller (meter collar) can provide whole-home backup without replacing the main panel. We confirm this during the site assessment.
