Escondido is in San Diego County, so the utility, the solar credit rules and the outage risks are different from our Riverside County cities. We work in SDG&E territory and design accordingly.
What we do in Escondido
SDG&E, not SCE
Electric service in Escondido is provided by San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E). California's NEM 3.0 net billing rules apply to SDG&E customers, which raises the value of storing your own solar power, so we model your system with and without a battery. Read NEM 3.0 and home batteries for the plain-English version.
Wildfire-season outages and backup power
Utilities in San Diego County can shut power off in advance during high-wind, high-fire-risk weather, and foothill and hillside neighborhoods can be affected. A Tesla Powerwall or Enphase IQ Battery keeps essential loads, or the whole home, running. See the backup tiers in our battery guide.
Escondido permitting
Permits are issued by the City of Escondido (or San Diego County for unincorporated addresses). We submit the permit, complete the SDG&E interconnection application and schedule the inspection.
Common questions
Do you work in San Diego County?
Yes. We serve San Diego County, including Escondido, and we handle the SDG&E process.
Is the process different from Riverside County?
The utility (SDG&E instead of SCE) and the permitting office are different. The steps we handle for you are the same.
Should I add a battery?
It depends on your usage and how much backup you want. We model both options for you.
