What a proper Level 2 install involves
- Panel capacity check. We calculate whether your electrical service can carry the charger on top of your existing loads.
- Dedicated 240V circuit sized for the charger. EV charging is a continuous load, so the circuit is rated with the extra margin the electrical code requires.
- Charger mounting and wiring in your garage or on an exterior wall, with the conduit route planned to keep the run clean and short.
- Permit and inspection. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection so the install is documented and code-compliant.
Level 1 vs. Level 2
A standard 120V outlet ("Level 1") adds only a few miles of range per hour of charging. A Level 2 charger on a 240V circuit is what most owners want: it typically refills a daily commute overnight and makes a full charge practical at home. We install Level 2 chargers for all EV brands, including Tesla Wall Connector-style and universal J1772 units.
When your panel needs help
If your panel is full or your service is too small, adding a charger can require an electrical panel upgrade to 200A or 400A service. We tell you this up front, after checking your actual loads, so there are no surprises. Adding solar too? A solar system can offset the electricity your car uses, and we can plan the panel work once for both.
Common questions
How long does an EV charger installation take?
Many installs are completed in a day when the panel is close to the charger and has capacity. Longer conduit runs, trenching, or a panel upgrade take more time. We tell you what to expect after the site visit.
Do I need a permit for an EV charger?
In most California cities and counties, yes. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of the job.
Does my house have enough power for a charger?
That depends on your panel size and your existing loads (air conditioning, dryer, oven, pool equipment). We run the load calculation before quoting so you know whether a panel upgrade is needed.
Which charger brands do you install?
Any brand. Send us the model you have or ask for a recommendation — we install Level 2 chargers for all electric vehicles.
Can I charge from solar?
Yes. Solar production can offset the electricity your car uses. Pairing the two is easiest when planned together — see solar installation.
