Riverside is a bigger, older city than most of our service area, with historic neighborhoods and homes from many eras. Two things set it apart for solar: older electrical systems, and a city-owned electric utility.
What we do in Riverside
Riverside Public Utilities, not just SCE
Most of the City of Riverside is served by Riverside Public Utilities (RPU), the city's own electric utility, while Southern California Edison (SCE) serves some other addresses. RPU has its own interconnection process, and municipal utilities set their own solar credit rules; California's NEM 3.0 applies to SCE, PG&E and SDG&E customers. We confirm your utility first, so your system is designed and quoted under the right program.
Older homes and historic neighborhoods
Older Riverside homes can have older panels and wiring. We inspect before we quote and tell you plainly what should be updated, whether that's an panel upgrade, new circuits, or nothing at all. The same licensed crew handles the electrical work and the solar.
Riverside permitting
Permits are issued by the City of Riverside (or Riverside County for homes outside city limits). We submit the permit, complete the utility application and schedule the inspection.
Common questions
Do you install solar for Riverside Public Utilities customers?
Yes. We handle the RPU interconnection process. It's different from SCE's, which is why we confirm your utility first.
Does NEM 3.0 apply to RPU customers?
NEM 3.0 applies to SCE, PG&E and SDG&E customers. Municipal utilities like RPU set their own rules, and we'll explain the ones that apply to you.
My home is older. Is that a problem?
Not necessarily. We check the panel and wiring first and tell you what, if anything, should be updated.
